The poker season is blossoming in US and 2009 WSOP (World Series of Poker) is just around the corner. A huge number of contestants, from all over the world, are expected to swarm at the Rio, Las Vegas Casino for the most awaited poker tournament of the year. With only three weeks to go organizers are estimating that around 6000 poker players will register in the poker tournament, that can celebrate its 40th anniversary.
It seems that nothing can stop poker players to attend the poker event, even though the current economic difficulties have badly hurt many industries in the world. WSOP organizers are confident about the big turnout of the event. In 2008 the entries were over 58,700 for a total prize of more than $180 million!
WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack said that this success needs to be rewarded with the creation of a big festival and with a constant improvement of every single aspect of the poker tournament. The aim is to deliver an unforgettable experience to any kind of player that shows up.
The 2009 WSOP tournament will begin on May 26th and last for 6 weeks. The $40,000 buy-in, no limit hold’em competion will start on 28th and two days later will begin the $1,000 buy-in, no limit hold’em event, which is expected to draw more than 6,000 poker players. 27 former WSOP winners will fight each other in a Champions Invitational event, a special new tournament, trying to win the Champions’ Champion mantle.
