Lawmakers are optimistic that US online casinos will soon be regulated by the federal government in the US. Many analysts are of the opinion that casinos will be initially regulated at the state level, and later on nationally. Lawmakers and residents are softening to the idea of gambling being expanded, and many land based casinos are opening up at a fast pace, simultaneously even online gambling is pushing its way into many states now.
On the other hand the federal government is taking no action on the recommendation put forth by Representative Barney Frank introducing legalization, and to turn over the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act now prevalent in the US. This bill however may not be considered in the near future and may be reviewed only in the Fall of the New Year.
This scenario is leaving the door open for individual states to take their own stands and call the shots, and California is already in the lead considering legalization of online poker. Other states are following suit and are discussing online gambling options extensively. Joel Hersh NOC Gaming Analyst commented that there is a rush in the US among various states, to prove the leader and to be the first to regulate online gambling, but who will win the race is to be seen.
California and Florida appear to be the most reasonable choices for regulating US online casinos, and though Florida would be a perfect location, California is already way ahead with discussions. Barney Frank and his Financial Services Committee are optimistic that sooner or later online gambling will be regulated and it’s just a matter of time before legalization follows, however the unanswered question is which state would be the first of the lot, only time will be able to tell.
