Roulette is a great casino game that is full of glamor and excitement. The game is themed on a simple idea and is very easy to play. The casino game of roulette is generally believed to have been invented in France in the 17th century by a famous mathematician, Blaise Pascal. A simple sign to show it is French, lies in the name ‘roulette’ which means little wheel. The game was however improved by Francois and Lois Blanc.
After being played by the French, the casino game of roulette found its way to the United States during the 19th century. In the early 1990′s, with the start of online casinos, roulette became more popular and today it is one of the major online casino games played in online casinos.
Online Roulette Basics
For beginners, learning to play online roulette is pretty easy. Your first step is to place your bet on a number or group of numbers or even on a color (red or black). A small ball gets thrown on the spinning wheel and if it lands on a slot that has your predicted number or color, then you win. I always bet on either a color or on an even or odd number because my odds of winning are more or less 50%.
The layout of a roulette wheel in online casinos or in land based casinos consists of separate numbered slots that range from 1 to 36. The numbered sections are alternatively colored red and black. In some variations of the game i.e. American and European Roulette game, the roulette layout is different. The American version has an extra slot, the double zero “00″. The zero and double zero is a green slot. The outer boundary of the roulette table is set aside for the various bets that you can make.
Inside and Outside Bets at Roulette
There are 2 main kinds of bets that you can make in roulette and they are called inside and outside bets. Their names refer to their positioning on the roulette table. Inside bets are located on the inner part of the table and involves bets on numbers. Outside bets are placed on the outer section of the roulette table. They usually offer great odds and I always make outside bets. Outside bets are placed on color, and odds or even numbers.
